What You Need to Know About Fantasy Football - Leagues to Avoid
Having experienced virtually every type of league, I have found serenity in joining 10-team and 12-team with yardage scoring, touchdowns, tight end optional and serpentine fantasy drafts. Why? Here is a simple list why I continue to commission and join these types of leagues.

  1. Draft Preparation: It’s much easier putting together a custom draft list based on scoring rules that aren’t to elementary or so detailed you don’t know where to focus your critical early round picks. In these types of leagues, you pretty much know that running backs are critical in the early rounds and if you are in a tight end league you need to plan accordingly as to when you can get a top tier player without leaving a goose egg on the scoreboard each week.

  2. Draft Day: With good draft preparation, you will have a good feel for how to draft. Especially if you know your draft position ahead of time. (Each season in the league I commission we determine the draft picks based on how each team finishes the previous year. As there is always owner turnover every year, we just bump team owners up the draft order if they want to and place rookie owners at the 12th, 11th, or 10th pick or basically at the end of the draft. If there is more than one rookie owner, their team names are placed in a hat or we draw playing cards. Jack = 11th pick, queen = 12th, and so on) This preparation going into a league with detailed enough rules to keep things fair yet simple enough scoring to prepare for.

    7. 50+ (minus) -4 points
We allow the more detailed scoring listed above for kickers and defenses to have the most balanced league possible where kickers and defenses have more value and play a more intricate role on our fantasy teams. This doesn’t exactly mean they have the equality of a good running back or receiver, or to draft these positions earlier than normal. However when starting your lineup it is important to pick up replacements during injury, or a bye week, otherwise a goose egg on game day from this position could result in a loss without proper team management.

Finally, if you want to experience any of the types of drafts listed above, we encourage you to do so only if they are free. That way you don’t lose any of your hard earned money, and you get the experience to live by.

Final Analysis: Whether you are a seasoned fantasy football owner or a just getting your feet wet with very little knowledge of fantasy football, we strongly suggest joining your typical 10 to 12 man, serpentine leagues.
